Cheap Trick escape as Ottawa rock stage collapses

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Veteran U.S. band Cheap Trick escaped unhurt when a storm blew in a lot of their stage show at a major rock concert in Ottawa, Canada, on Sunday night.

Band about 20 minutes into their set at Bluesfest Ottawa when a sudden storm swept the area. The band left the stage seconds before a very strong gust of destroying most of the structure, pushing it back onto the road adjacent and distant from thousands of spectators.

Three people were injured, including the band's bus driver. Police are investigating the incident, which occurred on the last night of the event.

"Fortunately the band and crew all lucky to be alive and we'll see you on the road," said lead singer Robin Zander on the band's website.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, who attended the event, said he did not feel the organizers can be prepared for hurricane strength.

"It's natural, really, and there are certain things you can not plan for ... we were very fortunate no one was killed," he told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. on Monday.
